How To Give Back This Holiday Season

| December 22, 2022

One of the integral components of the holiday season is giving. The holidays are the perfect time to give back to your loved ones and your community and spread holiday cheer. More people are in need this year more than ever due to the rising inflation rates, causing all necessities to be much more expensive. Take the opportunity this year and give back during the holiday season. Below we discuss a few ideas for charity and donations.

Donate Warm Clothes

For someone facing homelessness, the winter weather can be even more brutal. You can get a head start on spring cleaning and go through any old coats, sweaters, hats, scarves, and gloves that are still in good condition. Take all of your old winter clothes and donate them to a local homeless shelter. This is a great way to give warmth to people in your community.

Host A Food Drive With Your Loved Ones

Everyone deserves a lovely holiday meal, but with inflation jacking up the prices, it’s much more difficult to purchase all of the ingredients this year. Contact a local food bank in your area to ask what they need the most of. Then get your friends, family, and neighbors together to collect the donations, most of which would be non-perishable goods. Any food bank will be extremely thankful for donations during the holiday season.

Angel Trees

Every year, The Salvation Army does an Angel Tree program where you can pick a child to purchase gifts for. You’ll get their age, gender, clothing sizes, and their wishlist so you can put presents under their tree for Christmas. It can be fun for the whole family to pick out the gifts that will brighten a child’s holiday season.

Donate Money

Any charity would be grateful for financial donations. As a gift to a loved one, you could make a donation to a cause that is near and dear to them in their honor. You could also make a charitable donation in memory of a loved one to a cause that was important to them. Monetary donations are the backbone of nonprofits and your donation will be put to great use.

Volunteer At A Homeless Shelter

You don’t always have to donate money or items, you can donate your time too. Homeless shelters are always in need of volunteers, especially during the holidays when there is a large surge in people who need help. A few of the common tasks you would be helping with are serving in the kitchen, preparing meals, set-up, or cleaning after the meal is provided. It can be a great experience for the whole family.
